Ελβετοί ερευνητές ισχυρίζονται πως κατασκεύασαν ένα εύκαμπτο φωτοβολταϊκό απόδοσης 18,7%.Τα πρωτοποριακά εύκαμπτα φωτοβολταϊκά CIGS, κατασκευασμένα από χαλκό, ίνδιο, γάλλιο και διοξείδιο του σεληνίου, υπόσχονται να συμπιέσουν το κόστος της «ηλιακής» ηλεκτροπαραγωγής, καθώς αφενός είναι φθηνότερα και αφετέρου πλησιάζουν πλέον σε αποδοτικότητα τα φωτοβολταϊκά πολυκρυσταλλικής σιλικόνης και τα άκαμπτα CIGS.
Την έρευνα διενήργησε ομάδα επιστημόνων των Ομοσπονδιακών Εργαστηρίων Επιστήμης Υλικών και Τεχνολογίας της Ελβετίας (Empa).
Η ίδια ομάδα είχε επιτύχει την κατασκευή ενός φωτοβολταϊκού απόδοσης 17,6% τον Ιούνιο του 2010.
Την εμπορική εκμετάλλευση του νέου φωτοβολταϊκού θα αναλάβει η εταιρεία Flisom.
